Kris Walton was a DJ at the college radio station in Bellingham and she was a big fan
of the band. We had played Bellingham a few times,
including Next Exit opening for the Blasters
at a very fun campus show. Kris got us into Buck's in Bellingham. We would bring the
PA and lights in Mark's van.
We bought a 1969 Lincoln town car that easily
traveled six people. We purchased it for $400 from a woman friend of the band that
had discovered that the roof leaked. It had been a total source of
grief for her, and she just wanted to get rid of it and do us a favor at the same time.
There had been standing water in it for a long time. Ryco solved the problem by drilling a few
holes in the floor, draining it and drying it out with heaters.
We called it the "Stinkin' Lincoln". It had an old 8-track stereo in it, so we found
old 8-tracks like Deep Purple Machinehead to play in it. What a great engine that 460 was.
The hardest thing was trying to keep it from going 90 miles an hour.
